Report: Chiefs DE Emmanuel Ogbah agrees to terms with Dolphins

Another pending free agent for the Kansas City Chiefs has struck a deal with a team.

Emmanuel Ogbah was the reigning sack leader in Kansas City during the 2019 season before tearing his pectoral and landing on injured reserve. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Ogbah will join the Miami Dolphins on a two-year deal at the start of the new league year. He’ll make $7.5 million fully guaranteed and $15 million over the life of the contract.

Ogbah was a trade acquisition by the Chiefs ahead of the 2019 NFL season. Kansas City sent former draft pick Eric Murray to the Browns. Just a year later, Ogbah will find himself on a new team with a new contract.

In all, Ogbah appeared in 10 games for the Chiefs, starting in four contests. He’ll finish his time in K.C. with 32 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, three passes batted, a forced fumble and 11 quarterback hits.

Fans were hopeful that the Chiefs would find a way to retain Ogbah, but he wasn’t among the likely candidates to stay with the team beyond 2019. If the Chiefs don’t sign any qualifying free agents to cancel out this departure, it will net them their second compensatory draft pick in the 2021 season. That pick would be a fifth-round draft choice for Kansas City.
