Report: Chargers signing DT Sylvester Williams

The Chargers have agreed to terms with defensive tackle Sylvester Williams, according to Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson.

Williams adds some depth to quite depleted interior defensive line. The team was without Justin Jones and Brandon Mebane this past Sunday against the Titans and the acquisition could suggest they might be without one of the two for a longer duration.

The 30-year old defensive tackle has been house hopping for the past few seasons after his four-year stint came to an end with the Broncos in 2016. He’s played for the Lions, Dolphins and the Saints. Williams was released from New Orleans on cutdown day.

In 89 games played, Williams has amassed 128 tackles, six sacks, two passes defensed and a fumble recovery.

Williams will likely serve as depth, but he is a player that has a knack for commanding double teams and has some pass rushing upside.
