Report: Chargers release CB Trevor Williams

The Chargers are released cornerback Trevor Williams from the injured reserve, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Schefter said that there’s a good chance that he gets claimed by another team, which indicates that he is close to full health.

Williams has been dealing with a quad injury since this summer. The injury was not making any progress, which led to the decision of placing him on the injured reserve.

After a breakout season in 2017, the former Penn State product was looking to continue to make an impact last season, but a knee injury held him to only nine games.

It’s unfortunate to see injuries hinder such a talented player, but there’s no need to keep him around when he can’t prove to stay on the field.

CB Michael Davis has started the past two games after sustaining a hamstring injury in the season-opener and the team seems content with him and Brandon Facyson to back him up.

In three seasons with the Chargers, Williams amassed 100 tackles, 22 passes defensed and three interceptions.
