Report: Chargers RB Melvin Gordon to return in 6-8 weeks

Chargers running back Melvin Gordon is expected to return at the halfway point of the regular season.

Gordon is expected to join Los Angeles between Week 6 and 8, ending his holdout, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Gordon will play on his $5.6 million fifth-year option. With the former Wisconsin product returning before Week 10, this season will count and qualify him for free agency after the end of the 2019 year.

The latest with Gordon is that Eagles offered the Chargers a trade to ship out RB Jordan Howard and a couple mid-round picks for him, but they turned it down.

Gordon has already been fined $1 million and that amount will continue to increase with the time that he will miss between now and late October or early November.

Until Gordon’s arrival, Los Angeles will continue to roll with Austin Ekeler as their lead back and Justin Jackson to compliment him.
