Despite offering quarterback Tom Brady a deal that would pay him at least $30 million per year, it appears he is going to pass on the opportunity to play for the Chargers.
According to NFL Media’s Jim Trotter, Brady’s camp has led Los Angeles to believe he is going to stay back East because of family considerations. Barring a change of heart by the quarterback, the team believes it is out of the running for him.
L.A. has had their eyes on the 42-year old for a couple of months now with the hopes of filling a void at the quarterback position and aiding in selling tickets in their new stadium in Inglewood, CA with a proven veteran who has a polished resume.
With the six-time Super Bowl likely staying in the East Coast, it’s there’s a strong possibility that he will ink a deal with the only other team reported that offered him at least $30 million annually, with that being the Buccaneers.
Now that the Chargers are essentially out of the running for Brady, they go back to the drawing board. The team could make a trade for Cam Newton, or they could use their No. 6 overall selection to draft someone like Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa or Oregon’s Justin Herbert to compete with Tyrod Taylor.
