What if Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers’ successor is already in the NFL?
Los Angeles has expressed interest in acquiring Cardinals quarterback Josh Rosen via trade, according to Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt.
“There are three teams that I’ve heard and I know that are very interested in Josh Rosen. That’s New England, that’s the New York Giants and that’s the L.A. Chargers. And one of those (teams) have already offered a second round pick.
Those are the three teams that have expressed some interest. There is one of those that has offered firmly a second round pick for Josh Rosen. Arizona is waiting for a first. I don’t think they’ll get it, but right now there is a second round pick on the table. [Rosen]’s gonna get moved. Just, what’s the price?
I think they are kind of waiting for the timing and ultimately what is that second-round pick, but I don’t think that they are going to get a first for him,” Klatt said.
Rosen, the No. 10 overall selection, is reportedly available because Arizona holds interest in drafting former Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray with their No. 1 overall pick this April.
During his rookie campaign, Rosen completed 55 percent of his passes for 2,278 yards, 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. L.A. was tied to Rosen throughout the pre-draft process last year.
So what would be the price?
The Cardinals want a first round, but like Klatt said, it’s unlikely they get one. In order for this to go through, I believe the Chargers would give up a second round selection, as well as Tyrod Taylor, who was acquired earlier this month. Arizona may want a little bit more compensation, but that’s what I feel would complete the trade.
Likely to want to be shipped prior to the draft, the trade could be finalized within the next few weeks if the Cardinals are sold on Murray being their guy.
