Report: Chargers’ Derwin James to undergo surgery, out 3 months

The Chargers will be down their star safety when the 2019 season begins.

Derwin James will undergo surgery on his right foot to repair a stress fracture in his fifth metatarsal. The operation will be performed by Dr. Robert Anderson, who’s also the same doctor that treated defensive end Joey Bosa’s foot in 2018.

James is expected to miss around three months. With that, it makes it likely that he will placed on the injured reserve list with the chance to return later in the season.

James suffered the injury Thursday during the joint practice with the Saints, and he was in a walking boot on Friday.
