Report: Chargers CB Jason Verrett to visit 49ers, take physical

Chargers cornerback Jason Verrett is scheduled to meet with the 49ers for a visit and to undergo a physical on Wednesday, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Likely to not return with Los Angeles in 2019, Verrett’s physical will be huge for the former TCU product, who has failed to stay healthy the past few seasons.

His only healthy season in the league came in 2015, a year after being drafted in the first-round when he finished with 47 tackles and three interceptions. For his efforts, he earned a trip to the Pro Bowl and appeared well on his way to establishing himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.

Verrett, 27, is still young so he would likely be a high-risk, high-reward addition for San Francisco if they do ultimately sign him.

If Verrett finds his way on a new team, Los Angeles’ need for a cornerback increases this offseason.
