Former Chargers cornerback Jason Verrett has now found a new team. The 49ers are signing Verrett to a one-year deal worth $3.6 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
It was unlikely that Verrett was going to be back with Los Angeles for the 2019 season after he struggled to stay healthy.
The former first round selection in the 2014 draft, Verrett played in just 25 of a possible 80 games in five seasons.
Verrett has only played five games over the past three seasons. He suffered an achilles injury in 2018, which ended his year before it even began.
When healthy, Verrett has proven to be one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, which was earned with an invitation to the Pro Bowl after the 2015 season.
With the signing of Verrett, San Francisco will receive a high-risk, high-reward option in their secondary.
