Report: Celtics two way guard Tremont Waters ‘break into a rotation elsewhere’

The Tremont Waters era with the Boston Celtics may soon be drawing to a close with reporting from The Athletic’s Jared Weiss suggesting the Celtics two way floor general may be looking for a team with more of a need for his services.

According to Weiss, the Connecticut native has been working out in the Constitution State “and is looking for more of an opportunity to break into a rotation elsewhere in the NBA this upcoming season.” Waters and his two way teammate Tacko Fall both have a season of eligibility left as two way players, but it seems at least the former hopes to make the leap to a regular NBA deal this season.

The possibility of a return to Boston as a two way player remains on the table, but both parties moving on after the LSU product has failed to fight his way into Boston’s rotation may well be the best move for all.

A rebuilding franchise with plenty of minutes in their backcourt and lesser stakes to consider may be more open to growing with the Celtics guard, and Boston may wish to try out some undrafted players from an especially deep draft with Waters’ current two way slot.

The former 51st pick of the 2019 NBA draft averaged 3.8 points and 2.4 assists per game with Boston last season while shooting 39.5% from 3 in 26 games played with the team.
