Report: Celtics still chasing AD although belief in Kyrie return ‘eroded’

Even though it may not make the most logical sense, the Boston Celtics maintain that they are still chasing New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis while the franchise is expected to lose star point guard Kyrie Irving to the Brooklyn Nets.

While Irving’s likely departure to Brooklyn has been rumored for weeks, the assumption has been that the Celtics would not risk sending assets to the Pelicans for Anthony Davis considering Rich Paul’s very public statements warning the Celtics that Davis would eventually hit free agency.

But according to Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe, the Celtics remain undeterred in their pursuit of Davis.

But the likelihood of an Irving return appears to be decreasing. Nevertheless, the sources said, it is clear that the Celtics’ pursuit of Davis will push forward.

Danny Ainge and the Celtics have always been a front office that takes risks. And it’s long been reported that Jayson Tatum is the player that the Pelicans have coveted most. However, the question is whether the amount of assets the Lakers can aggregate, perhaps with a third team, is enough outbid the Celtics?

It would be their most daring and riskiest move yet. But in an NBA offseason expected to be one of the wildest in recent memory, we can’t discount any possibilities.
