Report: Celtics, rookie Tremont Waters agree to two-way contract

The Boston Celtics have made a sensible move, clearing up a roster spot while retaining a talented rookie, as the team has agreed to a two-way contract with point guard Tremont Waters (per the Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn).

Having Waters on a two-way contract also allows the Celtics to only keep one rookie point guard (33rd overall pick Carsen Edwards) on their regular season roster next season.

Waters, the 51st overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, has shown himself to be a charismatic individual with all-around ability and a scrappy spirit.

He’s averaged 10.0 points, 3.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in 20.2 minutes per game for the Celtics during the Summer League but hasn’t been the most efficient player, shooting just 36.4 percent from the field, 22.2 percent from three and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe.

In two seasons at LSU, the 6-foot-1 guard averaged 15.6 points, 5.9 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 42.3 percent from the field, 34.0 percent from three and 80.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Waters joins former DePaul standout Max Strus as players on a two-way contract for Boston next season.
