Report: Celtics interested in free agent big man Enes Kanter

The Boston Celtics are headed for a whirlwind summer as they are expected to undergo some major changes with Kyrie Irving expected to join the Brooklyn Nets and Al Horford expected to leave in free agency. With Horford likely leaving and their draft night trade of Aron Baynes to the Phoenix Suns, the Celtics need a new center.

According to Yahoo! Sports’ Chris Haynes, the Celtics, along with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Los Angeles Lakers, will be in the running for free agent big man Enes Kanter. The Blazers acquired Kanter from the New York Knicks and he averaged 13.7 points and 9.8 rebounds in 2018-19.

One thing Kanter will definitely help the Celtics with is rebounding as they have always been a team that can struggle in that category. He took over the starting center spot in Portland once Jusuf Nurkic went down and he averaged 11.4 points and 9.7 rebounds in the postseason in Portland’s run to the Western Conference Finals.

Free agency is set to begin on June 30 at 6:00 p.m. EST.
