Report: Celtics interested in acquiring Wizards sharpshooter Davis Bertans

With the NBA trade deadline (3 P.M. EST) quickly approaching, the Boston Celtics are hot on the trail of Washington Wizards center Dāvis Bertans. Bertans, shooting 42.9 percent from three-point range and averaging a career-high 15.0 points per game, is in his fourth NBA season.

The sharpshooter is well-known for his prowess beyond the arc, even being named to this season’s NBA Three-Point Contest.

It’s unsure whether the Celtics believe that two first-round picks for Bertans is too high a price, especially with their current frontcourt depth and his impending free agency.

However, adding Bertans would add space to the court the team could utilize to make driving lanes for Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown more clean. Bertans’ spacing would also clear space inside for centers Robert Williams III and Enes Kanter, whose games are largely refined to the restricted area.

As a team, Boston shoots 35.9 percent from three, ranked 14th in the league (per Basketball Reference). The addition of Bertans, a career 41.1 percent shooter from deep, would go a long way towards helping them emerge from the middle of the pack.
