Report: Celtics elect to not re-sign Greg Monroe

Greg Monroe’s second tour with the Boston Celtics has already come and gone, with Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald reporting on Wednesday the Celtics have “decided to not re-sign” him “for the rest of the season,” after his contract expired Tuesday night.

Monroe didn’t get much of a shot this go-around in Boston, playing all of five minutes in the two games he appeared in.

The Celtics may still make another move, according to Murphy, with the roster spot being open.

With everything that’s gone on with Al Horford and Aron Baynes, the Celtics need all the help they can get in the paint in the postseason. While Robert Williams can provide a spark off the bench, he’s still not a reasonable answer off the bench for an extended period of play if the injury bug bites the Celtics’ bigs.

If Boston does fill the roster spot, it needs to be a big.
