Report: Celtics among teams with interest in Brooklyn Nets assistant Mike D’Antoni

If the Boston Celtics are hoping to land a high-powered head coach with experience bringing talented perimeter-shooting teams deep into the postseason, word is they might have one in mind.

ESPN’s Jordan Schultz reports the Celtics are interested in bringing on current Brooklyn Nets assistant head coach Mike D’Antoni, who most recently led the Houston Rockets to a 217-101 regular season and 28-23 playoff record. The caveat is the team will have to wait until the postseason is over to interview him since the current Nets assistant is neck-deep in a playoff run that looks very likely to last at minimum another round.

They’ll also have to compete with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Orlando Magic — and perhaps other clubs should the coaching carousel open more positions.

While he might be the most attractive candidate likely to be available this offseason, D’Antoni’s current employment may be a significant deterrent.

Expect a comprehensive search to continue in the interim likely to include as wide a net as possible, but the offseason coaching search appears to be heating up.
