Cardinals trade 2nd-year OT Korey Cunningham to Patriots

The Arizona Cardinals are paring down their roster, sending offensive tackle Korey Cunningham to the New England Patriots for a sixth-round pick.

The trade was initially announced by Cunningham on his Instagram account, but he later deleted it.

ESPN’s Field Yates reported the deal is for a sixth-round pick.

Cunningham was Arizona’s seventh-round pick a year ago. He started six games before injuring his foot and landing on injured reserve. He had been playing right tackle on the second-team offense.

However, with the emergence of this year’s seventh-round pick, tackle Joshua Miles, Cunningham’s spot on the roster was far from certain.

The move presumably opens the door for Miles to make the team, and it looks good because the Cardinals will receive a sixth-round pick for a former seventh-round pick who might not have made the team anyway.

Cunningham was one of two offensive linemen acquired by the Patriots on Wednesday, two days after reports emerged that starting center David Andrews has blood clots in his lung and could be out for the season.
