Report: Cardinals to sign former Bills DT Jordan Phillips to 3-year deal

The Arizona Cardinals have made their first move in free agency. After agreeing to a trade that will acquire star receiver DeAndre Hopkins, they have addressed one need on the defensive line.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals are signing former Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Jordan Phillips to a three-year contract.

The Cardinals entered the offseason with the defensive line as one of their biggest needs. They acquire a player who had 9.5 sacks last season for the Bills.

Listed at 6-6 and 341 pounds, Phillips is a former second-round pick of the Miami Dolphins. He had his best season in 2019 with his 9.5 sacks. He also had 31 tackles, including 13 for loss. He also had 16 QB hits.

He immediately upgrades the defensive line, which was hit hard by injuries in 2019.

As the roster now looks, Phillips will start with Corey Peters and Zach Allen. Michael Dogbe and Miles Brown are the reserves. But that is all they have on the roster for now.

Expect the Cardinals to add at least one other starting-caliber player on the defensive line.
