Report: Cardinals make trade for Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake

The Arizona Cardinals are dealing with depth issues at running back: David Johnson is out with an ankle injury for at least one more game, and Chase Edmonds suffered a hamstring injury on Sunday. According to reports, the Cardinals have addressed that depth by making a trade with the Miami Dolphins to acquire running back Kenyan Drake. They will send a conditional sixth-round pick in 2020 that could become a fifth-round pick.

Because the Cardinals dealt their sixth-round pick in 2020 for cornerback Jamar Taylor in 2018 and used their fifth-round pick to select Jalen Thompson in the supplemental draft this year, the pick they will give up will either be the selection they acquired from the New England Patriots for tackle Korey Cunningham or the pick they got from the Dolphins in the trade for quarterback Josh Rosen.

Drake has rushed for 147 yards and has caught 22 passes for 174 yards this season.

In 2018, Drake had 1,012 yards from scrimmage, rushing for 535 yards on 4.5 yards per attempt and catching 53 passes for 477 yards. He had nine total touchdowns.

He was originally a third-round pick in 2016. He is in the final year of his contract and will become a free agent at the end of the season.

This move suggests the Cardinals could be without Johnson or Edmonds for longer than this week.
