Report: Cardinals, Michael Crabtree failed to reach agreement on contract

The last 24 hours have been a whirlwind of information with the rumors of veteran wide receiver Michael Crabtree and the Arizona Cardinals. A Pro Football Talk report said Crabtree signed with the Cardinals, but it was later retracted. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said it was due diligence but there are no plans to sign him now.

A new report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter suggests the Cardinals did indeed want to sign him but a deal was never agreed upon.

Per Schefter, the Cardinals made a contract offer but the two sides could not agree on money.

Crabtree was released this offseason one year into a three-year, $21 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens. He was paid a $7 million signing bonus and made $1 million last year in salary.

He caught 54 passes for 607 yards and three scores in 2018 for the Ravens, though he also was among the league leaders in dropped passes.

If Schefter’s report is accurate, then there is the possibility Crabtree comes back and signs with Arizona. It will depend on whether or not he gets a better offer elsewhere and whether he is willing to play for that amount if he doesn’t get one.

As the Cardinals proceed through the preseason, it will be something to keep an eye on.
