Report: Cardinals cutting OLB Andre Branch

The Arizona Cardinals do not have to trim their roster down to 53 players until next weekend but they are beginning the process. After playing 22 defensive snaps without a single statistic and only one snap on special teams against the Minnesota Vikings, veteran outside linebacker Andre Branch is getting released by the Cardinals, reports ESPN Adam Schefter.

Branch signed with the Cardinals on July 30.

He was brought in as veteran depth and because he had worked under defensive coordinator Vance Joseph before. However, he was outplayed overall by Pete Robertson, who has had at least a partial sack in every preseason contest.

Branch had a sack against the Oakland Raiders.

He is 30 years old and enters his eighth season in the NFL. By releasing him now, he might have a better shot of landing with another team before the season starts in two weeks.
