Report: Cardinals claim former Bears DL Jonathan Bullard off waivers

Another name has emerged for the Arizona Cardinals as a player they have acquired via the waiver wire. Having reportedly claimed two offensive linemen, they also are addressing the defensive line.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, they have claimed former Chicago Bears defensive lineman Jonathan Bullard.

Bullard was a third-round pick in 2016.

Listed at 6-3 and 297 pounds, Bullard has played in 46 games in three seasons. He had 18 tackles last season for Chicago, including three for loss.

He played in a 3-4 scheme for the Bears, so the transition shouldn’t be too difficult, as the Cardinals also run a 3-4 defense under coordinator Vance Joseph.

The addition of Bullard would give the Cardinals seven defensive linemen on the roster, unless they cut one. They kept Corey Peters, Zach Allen, Rodney Gunter, Clinton McDonald, Michael Dogbe and Miles Brown on the roster. Allen, Dogbe and Brown are all rookies. The Cardinals could keep all seven or Brown could be cut.

Entering Sunday, the Cardinals had two open spots on the roster and potentially a third, as they are expected to place cornerback Robert Alford on injured reserve.
