Report: Cardinals bringing veteran DL Corey Liuget for visit

The Arizona Cardinals are looking to improve the depth on their defensive line. The sudden release of Darius Philon after his arrest last week has thrust rookie Zach Allen into the starting lineup and the leaves the depth with little experience.

To address this, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals are bringing in veteran defensive lineman Corey Liuget for a visit.

Liuget spent the last eight seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers and was a teammate of Philon, whom the Cardinals signed in February to a two-year deal and then released last week.

However, he appeared in only six games in 2018. He began the season with a PED suspension for four games and then ended up on injured reserve with a quad injury.

He also missed four games in 2017.

He is 29 years old and has been productive in the league. In eight seasons, he has 24 career sacks and 59 tackles for loss.

If Philon was a fit in the Cardinals defense, Liuget also is. The difference his the age and injury history.

Liuget would be a nice addition to the defensive line rotation and, assuming he would come off the bench, would give the Cardinals two solid veterans as reserves along with Terrell McClain.
