Report card grades for the Raiders’ rookie class in Week 10

The Raiders won another game this week in part to their fantastic rookie class. The draft class scored multiple touchdowns and made numerous plays on defense to help the team improve to 5-4.

Today, we will break down the performances from their entire class from 2019. Here is the team’s rookie report card after Week 10.

DE Clelin Ferrell: A+

Thursday night was easily the best game of Clelin Ferrell’s young career, recording eight tackles, three quarterback hits, and 2.5 sacks. While he did have a few offsides penalties, the Chargers couldn’t block the No. 4 pick. Ferrell’s best games have come over the last two weeks as he is becoming more comfortable in Paul Guenther’s defense.

RB Josh Jacobs: A

Once again, Josh Jacobs was phenomenal for the Raiders, tallying 101 total yards on 19 touches. Jacobs scored the game-winning touchdowns for the Raiders on a critical third-and-one inside the red zone. Despite dealing with a shoulder injury, Jacobs continued to run with power on every touch. He is well on his way to earning a Pro Bowl nomination during his rookie season.

SS Johnathan Abram: N/A

The No. 27 pick in the 2019 NFL draft suffered a shoulder injury in Week 1 and was placed on the injured reserve list. The expectation is that Abram will miss the entire season. 2016 first-round pick Karl Joseph started in place of Abram in Week 10.

CB Trayvon Mullen: B-

Mullen once again got the start at cornerback with Gareon Conley now in Houston. While Mullen had his fair share of problems, he actually held up well against Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. Every week, Mullen is looking more confident, and it appears that his best play is still in front of him.

DE Maxx Crosby: B+

While Clelin Ferrell had a career day, fourth-round pick Maxx Crosby wasn’t too bad, either. Crosby recorded three tackles along with three quarterback hits and a half-sack. He was around the quarterback all evening long with his only real mistake being an offsides penalty that took away an Erik Harris interception. Crosby is proving every week that he has been one of the best selections so far on the third day of the 2019 NFL draft.

CB Isaiah Johnson: N/A

After suffering a broken bone in his face during the team’s first preseason game, fourth-round pick Isaiah Johnson was active for the first time of his career on Thursday. Johnson didn’t play on defense but did see some snaps on special teams. Look for Johnson to get more snaps going forward for the Raiders.

TE Foster Moreau: C+

Foster Moreau didn’t see a lot of work in this contest, failing to record a target in the passing game. While he was on the field a bunch as a blocker and as a receiver, this just wasn’t the game for him. Moreau’s workload will always be conditional as the team’s No.2 tight end but expect bigger outings to occur in the next several weeks.

WR Hunter Renfrow: B+

Each week, Hunter Renfrow’s role in the Raiders’ offense continues to grow. In Week 10, he caught four passes for 42 yards, including two big receptions on the team’s game-winning touchdown drive. His only negative play came in the back of the end zone as a ball went through his hands that would have been a touchdown. Otherwise, the former Clemson receiver was fantastic again for the Raiders.

DE Quinton Bell: N/A

Bell was released from Oakland’s practice squad in Week 6 as the team continues to churn the bottom of the roster. Bell was just too raw of a player for Oakland to continue to stash.
