Report: Bulls have been ‘more receptive’ to DeMar DeRozan trade

Players are still performing, games are still being played, and fans are still tracking wins and losses, but for the next few days, trades are going to be the main topic of discussion around the league. And at the center of many of those discussions will be the middling Chicago Bulls.

Zach LaVine is no longer likely to be traded, as he’s set to have season-ending surgery. However, they have plenty of other potential trade candidates on the roster. Guys like Andre Drummond and Alex Caruso will be valued around the league, the latter more than the former, but DeMar DeRozan will be a name to keep an eye on, too.

Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints recently noted that the Bulls have been a bit more receptive to the idea of trading DeRozan during recent discussions.

“It appears as if DeRozan’s future with the Bulls is very much up in the air at this point,” Siegel wrote. “In recent days, DeRozan and the possibility of him being moved at the NBA trade deadline have been a topic of discussion, league sources told ClutchPoints. The Bulls have been more receptive to calls they have received about the veteran star, leading some to believe that Chicago will take the best offer presented to them for DeRozan, who is set to hit unrestricted free agency at the conclusion of the season. At the same time, the Bulls have never really operated with this type of mindset as a front office, and they do view DeRozan as the focal point of their core.”

DeRozan is in the final year of his contract, meaning it would be smart for the Bulls to trade him rather than risk losing him for nothing this offseason.
