David Blough showed promise in the preseason, but the undrafted rookie QB from Purdue was not going to make the Cleveland Browns final 53-man roster. He apparently impressed Cleveland’s final preseason foe, the Detroit Lions, too.
The Lions are sending a 7th-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to the Browns for Blough, per a report from Adam Schefter. The exact compensation is not finalized and could instead include a 7th-round pick swap in 2022.
Blough completed 25-of-43 preseason pass attempts for 271 yards, with two TDs and two INTs. Both of those INTs came against the Lions on Thursday night. He consistently showed poise and confidence throughout the summer.
It’s always a net win when a team can flip an undrafted free agent who wasn’t going to make the team into any return compensation. Good win for Browns GM John Dorsey and a good opportunity for Blough, too. It also indicates Garrett Gilbert appears to have made the Browns
