Report: Browns and Myles Garrett close to 5-year, $125 million extension

The long-simmering discussion about Myles Garrett and a potential contract extension for the star defensive end with the Browns have moved to the front burner. According to a report from NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, the Browns and Garrett are “closing in” on that contract extension.

Citing an anonymous source, Rapoport notes the rumored extension is for five years and $125 million. That would make Garrett the highest-paid pass rusher in the NFL on annual contract value. Garrett has two years left on his rookie contract signed as the No. 1 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Even with that, expect at least $110 million for five years for Garrett if he elects to sign that long-term of a deal. Some players are opting for shorter contracts as an opportunity to sign more contracts over the life of their careers. If that’s the case, plan on Garrett bagging $22 million per year.

This comes on the heels of Chris Jones agreeing to a lucrative extension with the Kansas City Chiefs that raised the bar.
