Report: Browns add Shawn Heinlen, a scout with 20 years of experience

NFL teams go through transitions at unique times. Immediately following a season, coaches and heads of front offices are let go. Free agency and trades a few months later lead to player transition while the NFL draft brings another influx of moves for teams.

For front offices, outside of the top person in charge, most of the changes come following the draft and before the start of training camp. With all the prep work done all year, front office personnel have their seasons end later than most.

The Cleveland Browns have reportedly gone through some transitions within their front office. The team is expected to hire Philadelphia Eagles executive Catherine Raiche to a yet-to-be-specified “high-ranking” position.

In a switch of front office staff, Philadelphia is expected to hire Cleveland’s Charles alls as their new Director of Player Personnel.

Now comes a report that the Browns will be adding another former Eagles front office member in scout Shawn Heinlen:

As noted above, Heinlen has recent experience with the Eagles but spent most of his time with the Buffalo Bills.

It is often hard to know the impact of specific front office members on the decisions a team makes. It will be interesting if the transitions on the Cleveland staff create discernable change in how the front office makes decisions moving forward.

The Browns have not announced any changes to their staff at this time. Their front office page still lists Walls as their national scout.
