Report: Broncos won’t place tender on CB De’Vante Bausby

De’Vante Bausby is one of six Broncos players who are scheduled to become restricted free agents on March 18.

Because the cornerback is a RFA, Denver can place a one-year tender on him. That would increase the chances of the Broncos retaining Bausby for the 2020 season because the tender allows them to match any offer Bausby signs with another team.

There’s some risk, though. If Bausby doesn’t sign an offer with another team, Denver would be obligated to pay him his tender value for the 2020 season.

That might be part of the reason why the Broncos “don’t plan to tender” Bausby, according to a report from KMGH-TV’s Troy Renck.

Placing an original-round tender on Bausby is projected to cost $2,144,000, according to OverTheCap.com. If Denver does not tender Bausby and he doesn’t draw interest from other teams, the Broncos might be able to re-sign him for closer to the veteran minimum for a fourth-year player ($820,000).

Not placing a tender on Bausby probably doesn’t mean Denver has no interest in bringing him back. It’s likely just a cost-saving decision.
