Report: Broncos TE Noah Fant day-to-day, LB Joe Dineen out two weeks

The Broncos got some good injury news Tuesday when the team learned that rookie tight end Noah Fant suffered a “minor ankle sprain” against the 49ers, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Fant is expected to be day-to-day.

Fellow rookie Drew Lock wasn’t as lucky. Denver’s second-round draft pick is expected to miss the rest of preseason with a badly sprained right thumb. The right-handed quarterback won’t need surgery but he is expected to need a few weeks to recover.

Elsewhere on the injury report, rookie linebacker Joe Dineen was diagnosed with a “broken fourth metacarpal in his right hand,” according to Klis. Dineen is also expected to miss the rest of preseason but Klis tweeted that the rookie might still have a shot to make the 10-man practice squad.

The Broncos have been hit hard by injuries this summer but most of the team’s starters are expected to be ready for the regular-season opener against the Raiders on “Monday Night Football” on Sept. 9.
