Report: Broncos schedule private workout with QB Clayton Thorson

The Denver Broncos have scheduled a private workout with Northwestern quarterback Clayton Thorson, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. The workout will take place in the Chicago area.

Thorson (6-4, 222 pounds) has been compared to DeShone Kizer by NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein. Kizer was a second-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft but he is widely considered a bust. The Notre Dame product has completed 53.1 percent of his passes as a pro with 11 touchdowns against 24 interceptions.

Thorson completed 58.4 percent of his throws for 10,731 yards with 61 touchdowns against 45 interceptions during his four years with the Wildcats. He is the 12th-best quarterback in this year’s class, according to Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling (view the complete rankings here).

“Thorson’s grown to be efficient and rhythmic in his quick route decision making and placement, leading his receivers to gain yards after catch,” Draft Wire’s Gavino Borquez wrote of the quarterback in January. “His lack of arm strength struggles to adapt and regain opportunities once windows and opportunities close on the perimeter and vertically.”

Denver may consider Thorson as a late-round prospect in April.
