Report: Broncos ready to draft Devin Bush before trade with the Steelers

According to Denver Broncos reporter Mike Klis, the Broncos wanted to draft linebacker Devin Bush. In fact, according to Klis, the Broncos actually wrote Bush’s name on the card at the 2019 NFL draft prior to accepting the trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers which allowed Pittsburgh to move up to No. 10 and draft Bush instead.

As it turned out, Broncos’ director of player personnel Matt Russell did call team rep Derrick Thomas in Nashville, where the draft was held, and had him write Bush’s name on a card to be submitted to the NFL in the minutes before Denver’s time was up to make its selection.

The Steelers sent Denver the No. 20 and No. 52 overall picks for the No. 10 along with a third-round pick in 2020 to go up and get Bush. Most pundits agreed the trade was fair for both sides but Denver felt like it was good enough to pass on the player they wanted and needed for their defense.

Now the Steelers have Bush and are hoping he can be the final piece to a championship defense. The Broncos drafted tight end Noah Fant with the No. 20 pick and then used the No. 52 pick to move up and draft quarterback Drew Lock in the second round.
