Report: Broncos RB Theo Riddick out 6-8 weeks with shoulder injury

The Broncos’ backfield competition just got a little complicated.

Denver running back Theo Riddick, who signed with the team last week, suffered shoulder fracture against the Seahawks on Thursday, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. The injury is expected to sideline Riddick for 6-8 weeks, putting him on track for a return between Weeks 2-4 of the season.

Riddick’s injury will create an interesting situation for the Broncos because he will likely still make the 53-man roster but Denver will need a third running back on the roster until Riddick returns to full health.

This may open the door for Devontae Booker to make the team behind top two running backs Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman. If that happens, the Broncos will have to either cut Booker when Riddick returns or carry four running backs during the 2019 season.

Riddick will likely be Denver’s primary receiving back once he returns from his shoulder injury. The Broncos will fac ethe Chargers on the road in Week 5 on Sunday, Oct. 6. That may be Riddick’s return date.
