Report: Broncos QB Drew Lock out 2-6 weeks with shoulder injury

Story update: KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis has contradicted ESPN’s report, tweeting Sunday evening that Lock’s injury is not an AC joint sprain. See our original post below.

Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock suffered an AC joint sprain in a 26-21 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and will be sidelined for 2-6 weeks, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Jeff Legwold.

That’s the same type of injury that sidelined wide receiver Courtland Sutton for Denver’s season opener against the Tennessee Titans last week. Sutton was back on the field in Week 2 but given Lock’s expected recovery timeline, the quarterback seems to have a more severe injury than Sutton.

The Broncos will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3 before going on the road to face the New York Jets on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 4. That TNF game is only 11 days away so Lock’s earliest possible return would likely be on the road against the New England Patriots in Week 5.

Before leaving Sunday’s game, Lock went 1-of-5 passing for 20 yards. Jeff Driskel replaced Lock and went 18-of-34 for 256 passing yards with two touchdown passes against one interception. Unless Denver brings in another QB, Brett Rypien will be promoted from QB3 to QB2 behind Driskel.
