Report: Broncos finalizing six-year deal with Vikings’ George Paton to become new GM

During his time with the Vikings, assistant GM George Paton has received interest from teams across the league. This time, he’s actually leaving, according to a report.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Broncos are finalizing a six-year deal to make Paton their next general manager. The move comes after John Elway stepped down from his general manager position with the Broncos.

“George Paton and his wife loved Minneapolis, but heard many good things about the great city that Denver is. Paton will return to Denver this weekend and get to work,” Schefter said on Twitter.

Ryan O’Halloran of the Denver Post reported if the Broncos were to settle on Vikings assistant GM George Paton to be their new general manager, he might bring Vikings director of college scouting Jamaal Stephenson with him.

If that ends up being the case, the Vikings could be looking at some big changes in their front office this offseason.

Paton just finished up his 14th season with the Vikings. He has been part of a front office known for finding talent in the back half of drafts.
