After months of silence, there is some new information about the crash involving former Kansas City Chiefs OLB coach Britt Reid.
A new report from WDAF-TV says the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that they’re currently reviewing the crash involving Reid for charges. The review of the police case began earlier this week and they don’t currently have a timetable on when that review will be completed per the report.
Reid, the son of Chiefs HC Andy Reid, was involved in a multi-vehicle accident on an I-435 on-ramp on Thursday, Feb. 4th ahead of Super Bowl LV. The accident injured two children, including a five-year-old girl, Ariel Young, who was severely injured in the accident. Britt was suspected of and investigated by police for potential impairment according to USA TODAY Sports.
Shortly after the accident, Britt was placed on administrative leave by the Chiefs until his contract expired. The team did not renew his contract, instead deciding to hire a veteran NFL coach, former Eagles assistant Ken Flajole, to serve as their OLB coach during the 2021 NFL season.
The NFL has also confirmed that they will investigate Britt for a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy once the law enforcement investigation concludes.
The last update on the five-year-old girl came on March 27 via Tiffany Velhurst on the family’s GoFundMe page. It states that Ariel, “remains in the hospital” and has “a long road to recovery.” The GoFundMe has raised over $540K since February.
