Stashed Boston Celtics draft prospect Yam Madar appears to have a backup plan in case the team that drafted him 47th overall in 2020 decides he needs another season overseas or can’t muster a roster spot to house him at the NBA level.
Sports Rabbi’s Joshua Halickman reports that the Beit Dagan native has an offer from German team Ratiopharm Ulm to play next season should the Celtics not sign Madar to their roster. If that came to pass, the Israeli point guard would play with Ratiopharm in the German domestic league and in EuroCup play as he works on his game and body. Killians Hayes of the Detroit Pistons in the last player to make the leap to the NBA from that club.
The level of talent between Madar’s current league (the Israeli Premier Basketball League) is roughly commensurate and would provide a new range of opponents for the 20-year-old floor general to hone his craft against.

After the Celtics signed point guard Dennis Schroder on a value deal, it was an uphill battle for Madar to make the team, and a poorly-timed groin injury may have been the final straw for the Israeli to make the team this season.
He is still day-to-day and may yet get a shot at earning a roster spot, and that could also further be facilitated by a consolidatory deal by the team should one materialize. But it’s also good to see Madar have the potential to spread his wings a bit more no matter how things break.
