Blue Jays Trade OF Teoscar Hernández to Mariners

The Blue Jays have traded outfielder Teoscar Hernández to the Mariners for pitcher Erik Swanson and lefty prospect Adam Macko, Seattle announced Wednesday. The news was broken by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

“We began our offseason with the intent to add impact and length to our lineup,” Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto said in the release. “In adding Teoscar to an already solid foundation, we feel we’ve become a far more dangerous offensive club.”

“Teoscar has been one of the better middle-of-the-order bats in the American League and will be an exciting addition to our lineup as we look to strengthen our team and return to the playoffs in 2023,” executive vice president and general manager of baseball operations Justin Hollander said.

Hernández was named to his first All-Star Game in 2021, and this past season he slashed .267/.316/.491. The Mariners made their first playoff appearance since 2001 this past season, and this latest addition to their lineup only strengthens their case for returning to the postseason in 2023.
