Report: Bills signing former Panthers CB Captain Munnerlyn

According to a report by Mike Garafolo at NFL Network, the Buffalo Bills are signing former Carolina Panthers cornerback Captain Munnerlyn.

Munnerlyn was originally a seventh-round pick by Carolina in the 2009 NFL draft. He spent the first five years of his career playing for the Panthers until he joined the Minnesota Vikings in 2014. After three seasons there, he returned to Carolina, where he resumed his slot cornerback role from 2017-2018.

In all, he’s played 154 games, posting 12 interceptions, 64 pass breakups, six forced fumbles and 522 combined tackles.

With Munnerlyn out of the picture, the Panthers have been searching for a new starting slot cornerback. Coach Ron Rivera has called it the team’s most important position battle right now. Javien Elliott, Rashaan Gaulden, Corn Elder and Cole Luke are among the candidates.

Munnerlyn joins several other familiar faces on Buffalo’s roster and front office, including safety Kurt Coleman and head coach Sean McDermott, who previously served as Carolina’s defensive coordinator.

The Panthers won’t have to wait long to see them again. They will hold two joint practices with the Bills this week and then face them in their second preseason game of the year on Friday night.
