Report: Bill O’Brien is participating in interviews with Texans general manager candidates

Houston Texans coach Bill O’Brien is a part of the club’s brain trust that is participating in interviews for the general manager vacancy.

According to a report from the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain, O’Brien is part of a five-person panel that includes chairman Cal McNair, president Jamey Rootes, senior vice president of football administration and interim GM Chris Olsen, and executive vice president of team development Jack Easterby.

When asked at his Tuesday press conference following the first day of veteran minicamp, O’Brien was ambivalent as to his involvement in the selection of a new general manager.

“I’m not going to get any of those this speculation about interviews or anything like that,” O’Brien said. “That’s not something that I’ll talk about.”

The Texans fired general manager Brian Gaine on June 7. While the club has reached out to Ray Farmer and Martin Mayhew as GM candidates, their sights are clearly set on New England Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio, who worked with both Easterby and O’Brien in New England.
