Report: Bengals were interested in free-agent CB Kevin Johnson

Add cornerback Kevin Johnson to the list of names the Cincinnati Bengals were apparently pursuing in free agency alongside linebacker Joe Schobert.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the Bengals were one of the teams to express interest in Johnson before he ultimately signed a one-year deal worth $6 million with the Cleveland Browns.

Call it an interesting, smaller note about free agency for the Bengals. Johnson, 27, appeared in 16 games with Buffalo last year after spending the prior four seasons in Houston.

A first-round pick in 2015, Johnson checked in with a 73.2 grade at Pro Football Focus and ended up finding a rather muted market this offseason.

Johnson is a slot player who has had problems staying healthy in past years. The Bengals opted to go with Mackensie Alexander there, pairing him with former teammate Trae Waynes as one of the team’s top signings in free agency.
