Report: Bengals turned down trade offers for William Jackson at trade deadline

The Cincinnati Bengals are all-in on the contract year of cornerback William Jackson.

Sounds like a weird thing to say in June before that season. But a new report just revealed the Bengals turned down trade offers on Jackson at last year’s deadline.

Here’s the note from Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle: “The Bengals love William Jackson’s size, 4.37 speed in the 40-yard dash and cover skills enough that they rebuffed multiple NFL teams that inquired about him before the trade deadline last season, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly. ”

Jackson was an obvious trade target as he had a down year for a 2-14 team and the Bengals might’ve been comfortable offloading him.

But Jackson, the team’s first-round pick in 2016, clearly remains in the plans in a big way. Cincinnati coaches have hopes he’ll realize his potential as he goes into his second year in Lou Anarumo’s scheme.
