The Cincinnati Bengals are still making moves.
Although they have a few steady options in the backfield, the team is seemingly looking to add one more. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Bengals tried out Rod Smith, the former Dallas Cowboys running back.
Playing the last two full seasons in Dallas, Smith has received quite the workload with Ezekiel Elliott missing a handful of games as he was suspended the majority of the 2017 season.
That meant it was time for the former Buckeye Smith to step up. He totaled 232 yards on 55 rushes, a 4.2 per carry average. He also posted 19 receptions for over 200 yards that season, including a career-high 81-yard catch and run.
The return of Zeke meant the covering up of the talented Smith. However, on the Bengals, he’d also be unlikely to receive the bulk of the action. But, given the versatility that Smith could provide, he’d still be a good fit in Cincinnati.
It’s not guaranteed that Smith joins the Bengals, and if he doesn’t, expect Cincinnati to target a running back in the draft. Obviously, they have a desire to secure an up-and-coming back in case of injury or suspension.
