Report: Bengals shying from trades in order to ‘evaluate their roster’ after the bye

As the hours pass and Tuesday’s trade deadline nears, repeated reports continue to stress the same theme — the Cincinnati Bengals won’t be active.

A new report notes the brass in Cincinnati want to wait and see this roster fully healthy before making any decisions, which means waiting until after the deadline passes.

The latest comes from ESPN’s Josina Anderson: “Don’t look for any movement from the #Bengals on any of their ‘key guys’ by the trade deadline Tuesday, at this time. I’m told Cincinnati would still like to evaluate their roster when they get healthier after their bye this week.”

This won’t please fans ready to see the Bengals make a move or two, which makes sense. The team heads into the bye at 0-8 and the return of someone like A.J. Green won’t solve the droves of problems facing the offensive line or linebacker, to name a few of the issues.

This vibe coming from the greater Cincinnati area could change if a big offer comes in for a player. Odds seem strong Green and Geno Atkins are off the table no matter what — but most everything else might be fair game.

But as we’ve stressed here often, the lack of in-season trades over the years and turning away of other franchises so often could mean only lowball offers come across the phone lines over the next 24 hours or so.
