Report: Bengals release guard Michael Jordan

The first notable cut for the Cincinnati Bengals before the 4 p.m. ET deadline to reach 53 players is guard Michael Jordan.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news: “Bengals have waived former fourth-round pick and starting guard Michael Jordan, per source. Always a surprise to see a team release Michael Jordan.”

Jordan started training camp as the first guard on the depth chart but that seemed like a technicality more than anything else. A report after the third preseason game said the Bengals had floated him in trade talks before trading Billy Price.

A fourth-round pick in 2019, Jordan struggled when in the starting lineup and offseason additions put him firmly on the bubble. Xavier Su’a-Filo and Quinton Spain will start at the guard spots while rookies D’Ante Smith and Jackson Carman will serve as backups.
