Report: Bengals, Jack Del Rio decide the fit isn’t right

The Cincinnati Bengals and Jack Del Rio have been a point of speculation for much of the offseason.

On paper, if the Bengals were going to hire a younger coach such as Zac Taylor, someone like Del Rio as defensive coordinator made plenty of sense.

But according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, this option was discussed and both Taylor and Del Rio decided the fit wasn’t good enough:

Previously, Rapoport had made the Del Rio connection but at the time the Bengals hadn’t been able to confirm Taylor was the next head coach.

Taylor arrived Monday and took the job, which means he’s hitting overdrive on the hunt for a coaching staff right now.

With Del Rio out of the running, another longtime coach who can stand behind Taylor while running the defense such as Dom Capers makes sense.
