Report: Bengals have turned down Dolphins trade offers ‘on more than one occasion’

By now, it is well-known the Cincinnati Bengals won’t trade out of the 2020 NFL draft’s No. 1 pick no matter how many times the Miami Dolphins pick up the phone.

Thursday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter again confirmed the Bengals repeatedly turned down the Dolphins “on more than one occasion” as the Cincinnati front office gets ready to pick first.

Wednesday, two reports had said the Bengals turned down the Dolphins and informed Joe Burrow he’d be the pick. And as far back as April 9, reports said the Bengals were shutting down the Dolphins.

Those Dolphins have an army of picks, including three first-rounders and six in the top 70, plus future picks. But the Bengals were never likely to sell off the opening pick with Ohio kid Joe Burrow on the board and the need under center so great.

Cincinnati, for what it’s worth, simply won’t announce the pick until they’re on the clock because they want Burrow to have his special moment.
