Report: Bengals focused on best-player available in Round 2

The Cincinnati Bengals aren’t dialing into a singular need at the top of Round 2 ahead of the 2020 NFL draft.

After presumably doing so with Joe Burrow in the first round, those at the controls have made it abundantly clear it’s all about value in the following rounds.

A new report from ESPN’s Dianna Russini confirms: “After the Bengals select Joe Burrow, they’re focused on going for the next best available player. I’m told they will not be reaching to fill a position. Cincy a buyer during free agency positions them well—source says ‘Truly, the whole board is open for us.'”

This one isn’t overly new but it is worth reviewing. Last week, director of player personnel Duke Tobin dropped the following in a conference with the media:

The Bengals have gotten themselves into trouble going for need in the past, especially with offensive linemen like Cedric Ogbuehi, Jake Fisher and even Billy Price.

At No. 33 to start the second round, the Bengals will likely have first-round talents left on the board. It’s a luxurious position to be in, as adding first-round talents pretty much anywhere helps dramatically.

We’ll see how the board shakes out late tonight — but the Bengals are going to have a tough choice on their hands.
