Report: Bengals dialed in on Todd Grantham as defensive coordinator

It looks like the Cincinnati Bengals have their man for defensive coordinator.

Should he choose to leave the Florida Gators, of course.

According to Fletcher Page of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Bengals want Grantham to fill the position: “The Bengals have focused on Grantham, the source said, but as of early Wednesday Grantham had not yet made a decision to leave the Gators.”

The Bengals reportedly had Grantham in for an interview this week after expanding the search. It seems the hiccup is the fact he signed a three-year deal with the Gators this past season.

Grantham employs an aggressive defense with creative blitzes and on paper seems like a solid fit for the Bengals, both from a personnel standpoint and given the fact they struggled to generate pressure last year.

While it is a little odd it took Zac Taylor this long to fill arguably the most important position on his staff, there doesn’t appear to be much cause for concern unless the plan with Grantham falls through.
