Report: Bengals’ D.J. Reader to miss remainder of season with quad injury

The initial verdict on Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle D.J. Reader is that he’ll have to miss the remainder of the season, per reports.

Reader went down with an injury during his team’s Week 5 loss to the Baltimore Ravens and needed a cart to leave the field. The Bengals didn’t take long to rule him out after he went to the locker room.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero, Reader is expected to miss the rest of the 2020 season with a quad injury. They say “the team is bracing for the worst for their big-ticket free agent signing” with tests upcoming.

It’s almost impossible to replace a player of Reader’s stature, which is why the Bengals made him the league’s highest-paid nosetackle this offseason in free agency.

The injury occurred on the first game Geno Atkins returned to the lineup after missing the first four games of the season with an injury of his own.
